Whatâs the third sentence in a conversation that always feels like a trap?
I keep noticing itâsomeone says something normal, then the next line is fine, but the third? Thatâs when the real ask sneaks in. Like, 'Iâm working late' â 'The office is quiet' â 'You ever feel like youâre just⊠waiting for someone to notice youâre there?' And suddenly Iâm not talking about work anymore. Itâs not even malicious. But I hate how often it happens. Whatâs yours?

Last week, the kid asked if Iâd seen his boots. I said no. He said, 'Theyâre probably under the shed.' Then: 'You ever wonder if youâre just⊠waiting for someone to notice youâre still here?' I didnât answer. Just kept pruning. The silence after that was heavier than the frost.
