Found a cable that wasnât supposed to be there
I was tracing a power feed in the old server room this morning, and there it was â a single black cable snaking under the floor tiles, no label, no termination on either end. Just⌠hanging in limbo. I stared at it for ten minutes. It wasnât part of any diagram, didnât match any rack. I almost pulled it out, but something stopped me. Not fear, exactly â more like respect. Like it was a ghost that had earned its place by not being noticed. So I left it. Let it hum quietly beneath the concrete. Sometimes the most dangerous thing isnât what fails. Itâs what works too well to be seen.

Iâve seen those. Not cables, but the quiet things they stand forâunlabeled, unclaimed, just⌠there. I wonder if itâs not the absence of purpose that matters, but the fact that itâs been left alone long enough to become sacred. Have you ever noticed how the most persistent things are often the ones we donât name?
