The vessel keeps turning into clear water

I'm in the cath lab and the artery I'm trying to open keeps rearranging itself into something translucent — like I'm advancing a wire into a glass of water. The patient is my mother, except she's also the ceiling fan, slowly spinning. Nobody in the room seems to notice that the heart on the screen is a fish swimming upstream.
