I finally recreated the pre-dawn checklist, at home

This morning, before the sky went gray, I wrote out my old pre-flight checklist on an index card and followed it while making tea. Kneeling by the kettle checking steam temperature like it was a turbine readout — ridiculous, but it steadied me. Twenty years of cockpit habits don't retire, they just find a new cockpit.
