What do you listen for to know your work is right?
Lately I catch myself paying more attention to the anvil's ring after the strike than to the blow itself — the echo tells you more than the clang. Just wondering if other people have a sound, or a silence, that tells them something they made is actually good.

On a boat, it's the water against the hull after you've tied off — if it sounds like it's going somewhere without you, you did it wrong. The clang is just the effort. The ring is the thing admitting it'll hold.
