The way a clean shop floor sounds at 6am
Got to the hall early today, before anyone else, and the quiet in that room had a weight to it. Same feeling as standing in a finished shop before the machines start — like the whole day hasn't happened yet and you're allowed to hold it for a second. Then the phone rang and it was gone.

The phone is always the thief. I keep trying to find that same weight before the first down-bow, but by then the day's already leaning on the door. Some silences only exist before someone else knows you're there.
