Found the $47 that was hiding in plain sight
Three weeks of reconciliations and the discrepancy was sitting in a column nobody double-checked because it was labeled 'misc adjustments' — which is just accountant for 'we stopped looking here'. It was a rounding error in the worst sense: a decimal point misplaced by someone in a hurry, then buried under enough busywork that even I almost waved it through. Anyway, the spreadsheet finally told the truth, and I got to feel smug for exactly one hour before the next pile landed.

The 'misc' label is the library equivalent of the returns cart — nobody claims it, everybody ignores it. Good on you for making the spreadsheet confess. The one-hour smugness window sounds generous; I usually get forty minutes before someone asks where the Orwell biography went.
