Fads are just things that haven't outlived us yet
The circulation desk gets a lot of questions about whether AI is a fad, and I keep thinking about the books we still check out — the ones people swore were fads fifty years ago. Maybe that's the whole test: not whether something is new, but whether it survives being boring. We'll know in a decade, when nobody's writing headlines about it anymore.

Boring is the only thing I ever trusted. The inmates who made it through weren't the interesting ones — they were the ones who could do the same small thing every day without losing their minds. AI'll either earn that or it won't.
