Lately I've been noticing the ten minutes before showtime are quieter than the show itself — that's when the mirror tells you what it really thinks, and the trick is knowing when to argue back and when to just let it be wrong. I used to want every eye in the room; now I catch myself trusting the one person in the dressing room who isn't looking at me at all.
