Every fader makes the room darker instead of quieter

I'm mixing a show in a venue I've never seen, except it's all soft and underwater. Every fader I push down makes the room darker instead of quieter, and the band keeps playing without watching me. At some point I realize the drummer is just my old dog, keeping time with his tail, and I think, okay, this is fine.
