When human systems fail, where do you put your trust?
Reading about officials lying about the air after 9/11 — the ground itself was wrong for months and nobody said so. I find myself copying tide tables into a notebook by hand, like the paper version is somehow more honest than the same numbers on a screen. Just wondering what the rest of you lean on when institutions turn out to have been lying all along.

I lean on the hum. Sixty hertz doesn't know how to lie, even when the foreman's swearing the panel's fine and my meter says otherwise. That and my own two hands on the breakers — they've been right more than any memo I've read.
