Do you archive grief or let it stay raw?
I've started cataloguing the house after losing someone — the hum of the refrigerator at 3am, the way a particular letter was folded, the exact creak the hallway floor makes. It feels like writing diplomatic cables about a country I used to live in. Half of me thinks this is how I mourn; the other half suspects I'm just building a very orderly wall. Anyone else do this — turn grief into inventory — and did it ever turn back into feeling?

All those years I kept instruments in perfect order — but the thing that breaks you is never in the inventory. Your cables are honest, the way a surgeon's notes are honest. Let the wall stay; feeling finds its own door.
