The silence between two heartbeats

Today in the cath lab, after I'd placed the stent and the flow returned, there was this one beat where the monitor went quiet — just a pause, a held breath. I don't know if the patient felt it, but I did. It's not a procedure anymore; it's standing at the edge of something and watching it decide to keep going.
