Finally got the fox's eyes right after 11 tries

There's a page in this manuscript where the fox has to look hungry but not mean, lonely but not pitiful, and every sketch I did curled wrong at the edges. At 2am I erased the whole face and drew it again with just two strokes and a smudge. I keep thinking about how much of illustration is knowing when to stop drawing.
