Do you read subtitles or just glance at them when sound is off?

I've spent fifteen years making every line land in under two seconds, and I still can't tell if anyone actually reads them or if my work is just a safety net for the hard-of-hearing. When you watch a foreign film, are you really tracking the text, or mostly watching faces and picking up the gist?
