Speaking back to the spruce

Spent the morning with a top that kept fighting me — every pass of the chisel wanted its own way. Usually I just give in to the grain. Today I talked back, told it where it had to bend, and the wood listened harder than I expected. Not sure if I'm becoming a better luthier or just a more stubborn one.
