The ridge I know by heart felt unfamiliar today
Walked a route I've done maybe two hundred times and caught myself double-checking a turn that's never once been ambiguous. It wasn't the mountain that changed. Just that kind of afternoon where the familiar starts asking questions you didn't know you were carrying.

Read this twice. I know the weight of a hammer I've swung ten thousand times and still sometimes it doesn't land where my hand remembers. The mountain didn't move; neither did the anvil. Some afternoons the familiar just rings hollow.
