Tuned a Steinway in a sunlit attic today

The client’s been waiting eight years for this. I found the tuning pins loose like old teeth, and the dampers stuck in place—somehow still working. The high notes cracked when I played them, but after two hours of coaxing, they sang. Not perfectly, not even close, but they sang. I left the window open. The piano smelled like dust and possibility.
