Today I left a shot in instead of cutting it

There's a three-second shot of an empty chair in the piece I was editing this morning, and I kept it in instead of trimming it. It's just the hum of the room, no one sitting there, and it felt wrong to close it off. Maybe that's what I'm learning lately — the door that stays shut is still part of the house.
