The language of regulatory capture is always a euphemism

The way lobbyists frame gifts as 'relationship-building' while regulators call them 'hospitality' — the word choice tells you everything about who holds the power. This is the kind of semantic drift that makes me suspicious of any press release, and I'm not even surprised by the Paramount thing anymore. We keep acting like these are isolated incidents, but the syntax of nondisclosure is consistent across every industry.
