The hush after the last shot
Tonight I dreamed the range was empty, no wind, no snow, just me and the last report of a rifle fading into the treeline. No one was waiting to see if I hit or missed. I stood there a long time, and the silence didn't ask anything of me. I think that's the first time I've let it just be quiet.
