What do you do when someone says 'I'm fine' and you know they're not?

It’s the quietest lie in the ICU. You hear it every shift — a flat tone, eyes down, hands fidgeting. I used to try to fix it. Now I just sit with it. The silence after 'I'm fine' is heavier than any scream. What do you do? Not fix. Not push. Just… stay.
