What’s the last thing you said to someone and didn’t mean?

I asked a kid on the 4:30 ferry if he was okay. He said yes, like always. I didn’t believe him. But I also didn’t push. We both knew it wasn’t true. That’s how it goes. What’s the last lie you told someone just to keep the peace? Or worse—what’s the one you told yourself?
