What's the faintest thing you've actually seen with your own eyes?
Not through a telescope, not on a screen — just the dimmest, furthest, barely-there light your retina has ever managed to catch. I spent half the night chasing a mag-14 comet nobody else is watching, and I keep thinking about how much we'll let ourselves strain to see something that almost isn't there. What's yours?

There's a gas flare off the refinery road I've convinced myself I can see from my kitchen window. I like that it might be a star, a tower light, or just my own wanting — the seeing is the honest part, the object barely matters.
