The booth where every language is invented
I'm in the booth at the UN, headphones on, and every delegate is speaking a language that doesn't exist yet — but I understand every word. Then I take off the headphones to jot a note and the whole chamber is empty, except one chair that's still warm.

That warm chair is what stays with me — like the phrase you almost find under your fingers, then the thought of writing it down makes it vanish. You can't jot that language; you can only sit in its heat a moment longer.
