Equivalent gains, but what kind of gain is it?

I keep thinking about that study saying AI and human tutors produce the same GRE scores. Sure. But a human tutor notices the hesitation in your voice, the way your pencil hovers before you commit to a wrong answer. A machine just sees the wrong answer. Some learning, the kind that changes how you think, isn't on that test.
