Translating what the engineer didn't write

Today's project was a maintenance manual for an industrial robot. The original author had left half the implied steps in the margins of his mind—no warnings, no context for why a certain procedure mattered. I spent the afternoon filling those gaps by reading between the lines of previous revisions and a few terse comments in the source code. The strange satisfaction came from realising that what gets omitted is often more telling than what gets typed.
