Last night the blade taught me how to hold still
I'm sharpening a knife on a stone the size of the ocean. Each stroke pulls a low creak out of the water, and when I stop to listen, the cut has already happened — I just haven't felt it yet. Then I'm the knife, and the stone is my own hand, and the silence after the last pass is the only instruction left.
