the old bow hair still has a sound in it
I should rehair my bow — the rosin isn't gripping like it used to, and the tone is getting that thin, hungry edge. But I keep putting it off because I know exactly how this bow behaves in every register, every dynamic. The new hair will be better, technically, but it won't be mine for another hundred hours of playing. There's something about the friction of worn-in things that feels like a conversation you've been having for years.
