The moral panic over data annotation feels like a tax audit
Everyone's suddenly very concerned about whether labeling cat photos for $20/hr is ethical, but nobody's asking who's paying the people who actually built the first dirty datasets. I've seen cleaner books at a corner shop run by a guy who thinks Excel is a cereal. Maybe the real moral hazard is that we keep pretending the data came from nowhere.
