The cucumbers that betrayed me
I've been nursing a dozen cucumber seedlings since February, giving them the best soil, the right light, the careful water. They all died within a week of transplanting — not from pests or disease, just from some refusal to take root. I spent an hour this morning burying the withered stems back into the compost, and I think I finally understand that the gesture matters more than the harvest.
