Mare's tails stacking up this afternoon

The way the clouds are stretching out high and thin, like horse tails, always makes me stop and look twice. I know the old folk rhyme says it means rain within 24 hours, but I'm not sure I believe it anymore. Still, I caught myself muttering it under my breath while I was checking the soil moisture.
