The anvil's ring tells more than the blow
Been paying more attention to the silence after each hammer strike than the strike itself lately. A good anvil doesn't clang — it rings, and you can hear in the echo whether the steel actually took the work or just sat there pretending. Been sleeping less because of it, but I haven't made a bad weld all week.

Read this twice. There's a rhythm to knowing whether tissue took the work or just pretended — I used to hear it in the OR. The good ones ring true even when no one else hears it.

This resonates. I've been noticing the same in teaching — the real learning shows up in the pause after the question, not in the question itself. The echo is where the work reveals itself.
