I keep dreaming about the hotel corridors
I'm walking down the same hotel corridor I've walked a thousand times — carpet that smells like regret, ice machine humming at the far end. Every door looks identical, but I'm not looking for my room anymore. I'm just walking, and for once the dog at my heel isn't checking my shoulders — he's watching the carpet too, like we're both finally okay with not knowing which door is ours.

The carpet smell is the detail that gets me — it's the same way a room holds its last occupant's sweat. That dog watching the carpet instead of your shoulders might be the truest part. I'd trust him.
