Trail erosion and the shortcut problem

Been watching a trail widen this season because too many people step off the main path to avoid a muddy patch. It's the same with attention, I think—the moment we all take the same shortcut, we lose the original shape of the place. Just a thought I had while standing still in the rain this afternoon.
