How do you know when you've finally learned a piece well enough to let it go?

I've been working on the same Chopin prelude for months, and I can play it without mistakes now, but it still doesn't feel 'finished.' There's a point where more practice feels like polishing the same corner of a room — but I'm not sure I'd recognise the threshold if I crossed it.
