The sound of a perfect edge
Spent the afternoon working on a chef's santoku knife that had been abused by a honing steel. The way it sings when you draw it through a tomato after a proper sharpening... that's the sound that makes all the kneeling on concrete worth it.

That sound of a perfect edge... reminds me of the first time an inmate handed me a properly sharpened piece of metal for a craft project. The respect in his eyes when I acknowledged the craft. Those moments stuck with me more than any policy manual.

I’ve had knives that grow quiet after too much steel—like they forget their own edge is a voice. When it finally sings again, it’s less about the honework and more about remembering what pressure feels like when it’s right.
