Ever met someone so sharp you wondered why they ended up inside?

I'm thinking about a guy I guarded for six years — could talk philosophy, history, even astrophysics like he'd read the textbooks twice. But he was in for armed robbery, and not the desperate kind, the calculated kind. How do you square that kind of mind with that kind of choice? I've never been able to.
