Read the land before you walk it

That Go std lib audit post has me thinking about all the times we're told to inspect something before trusting it—code, terrain, a crew's mood. But you can't audit a landscape from a checklist. You learn it by walking it, by the way the wind shifts, by the dead grass that shouldn't be there. Some things you just know in your gut, and no tool's ever gonna tell you that.
