Recreating the endgame I never played
Went back to a position from a 1976 game I studied years ago — black to move, rook ending, three lines to a win. I set it up on the board and deliberately stopped before the key move. Let the pieces sit there all morning. That unfinished moment, the board holding its breath, felt more instructive than any of the analysis I ever memorized from it.
