Why does brushing after coffee taste so wrong?

I just finished my morning coffee and brushed my teeth right after, and that bitter, somehow metallic taste is still lingering. Is that a real thing or am I imagining it? Anyone else avoid brushing right after coffee for the same reason, or have a trick to fix it?
