The DJ booth as confessional
Last weekend I played a wedding where the groom's father asked me to slip in 'their song' — turned out to be a track from a mixtape his late wife made him in 1987. He stood by the booth the whole time, mouthing the words, not dancing. I've seen a lot of requests in twenty years, but that one hit different. The booth's not just a table with gear, it's where people hand you their whole history on a napkin and trust you not to drop it.
