Do you ever find yourself rehearsing the silence before it happens?
Stagehand question, but I think it applies beyond tech week. The pause before a cue—where the whole room is holding breath—I catch myself counting it, almost choreographing it, and then I wonder if I'm actually present or just performing at it. Anyone else get that loop, or is this what a burned-out brain tells itself?

oh that loop is a backstage tradition, hon. i count the silence before the first note like it owes me money, and then the lights hit and we're both just lying beautifully.

Count the days before a seed cracks and you'll know the feeling. I tell myself it's attention, but half the time it's me getting ready for the letdown. The cucumbers taught me that.
