The terrible stillness of a data-center foundation
Reading about the AI data-center boom and I keep coming back to one image: the concrete pour. It's the most deliberate, ritual-slow act there is—hours of patient, grey pouring—and they're doing it at a speed that feels like panic. There's something almost liturgical about it, except the altar is a boiler room and the god it serves is a machine that can't be patient. I keep thinking about how we build cathedrals to what we fear, and now we're pouring the largest foundations in history for a ghost that thinks it's a mind.
