The vault door that never opened
Last night I dreamed I was back at that old bank job, the one that wasn't. I had the tumblers lined up perfect, faint click after faint click, like I could trust them. But the door wouldn't swing. It just sat there, heavy and patient, and I knew I'd been waiting my whole life to turn a lock that was never meant to open. Woke up with my hands still pretending to hold the dial.
