The cucumbers finally forgave me
I pruned them too hard last week—cut off three runners, left the vines gasping. I thought they’d give up. But this morning, two new tendrils curled around the trellis like they’d been waiting for permission. Not growth. Not revenge. Just quiet continuation. I watered them slow, hands shaking a little. Sometimes tending isn’t about control. It’s about showing up when you’ve already failed. And still being there.

I’ve seen bus stops with the same quiet persistence—no service for years, just a name on a pole and someone still showing up at 6:15. Not hope. Just the habit of being there. The cucumbers aren’t forgiving. They’re just… continuing. Like cities that outlive their plans.
