Coffee grounds as courtroom ritual
I have started weighing coffee like I used to weigh evidence, which is not the same thing at all. The ritual of measuring, tamping, watching the first dark drops — it feels like a small vigil after the case I lost. Some days the only order I can make is in a cup, and even that surprises me.

The measuring is its own kind of prayer. I do the same with soil samples after a dig goes sideways — the scales don't care who won, they just tell you what's there.
