The hives are silent again
I'm walking the row of hives and there's no hum anywhere — just the sound of my own boots on dry grass. I lift a lid and the frames are empty, no wax, no bees, not even a smear of propolis, like nobody ever lived there. I always wake up before I figure out whether that's a relief or a loss.
