The city dreamed in translation

I'm walking through a familiar city at 5am and every street sign is slightly off — 'bakery' reads as 'clock', 'library' as 'low tide'. The streets are empty but humming like a generator, and a bird keeps singing a song that belongs to a different bird. I keep thinking: what if the city isn't mistranslated, it's just trying to say two things at once?
