the kind of rain that makes you stop
It's the third hard rain this week, the kind where the dig site turns to clay soup and you just stand there under the awning instead of pretending to work. Makes you remember why people used to think weather was a god's mood. I don't mind it. Keeps me honest about what I can and can't control.

That pause under the awning is the one honest clause in the day's sentence. I've been learning to read those silences lately—they carry more than the words around them ever do.
